February 2019 – Changes & Transitions

In January 2019, a number Illinois Democrats began their service with the Pritzker administration. Others have decided to step aside their Democratic Party duties to make room for new energy. And, sadly, some have passed. IN MEMORIAL: Robert “Bob” Pautler (1933–2019) former Chair, Randolph County Democrats. Bob was a dedicated member of his county Democratic Central Committee and the IDCCA. He was a precinct committeeperson for many years and served as Randolph County Chair for 12 years. Bob was a Navy veteran, a coal miner, a small business owner and a husband, father and grandfather. He will indeed be missed. [...]

IDCCA President’s Message – February 2019

IDCCA President’s Message by Kristina Zahorik, IDCCA President @ILDCCA @McHenryDems Fellow Chairs, We still have our work cut out for us, but 2020 is insight. Democratic values are American values and our values remain under attack from the Trump Administration and the GOP’s refusal to stand up to their President. We will continue to stand up and will continue to fight for our nation at every level. The State of the Union is one of a few haves and an increasing population of have nots or never haves.  Trump and the GOP has repeatedly supported policies and legislation that monetarily [...]

IDCCA President’s Message by Kristina Zahorik, IDCCA President @ILDCCA @McHenryDems Dear Fellow Democratic Chairs & Friends, It was an honor to be elected unanimously as your first female IDCCA President on November 10, 2018.  I am humbled and thrilled by the opportunity to continue and enhance the 102 county strategy. The IDCCA / NDTC Bootcamp helped to get me elected!

The IDCCA / NDTC Bootcamp helped to get me elected! by Carlos Acosta, McHenry County Board Member – District 5, @mchenrydems “I want to run for something.  Now what do I do?” This was the only question I brought with me to the 2017 Illinois Democratic County Chairs’ Association National Democratic Training Committee Bootcamp. The Bootcamp answered the question and more. My background may not have initially led be to want to serve in government, but it did make me an activist. I have been a Social Worker for over 20 years and was the co-founder and leader of the [...]

Run for Office: Ready, Set, Run 30-Day Challenge

Run for Office: Ready, Set, Run 30-Day Challenge by National Democratic Training Committee, @traindems Should you run for office? The short answer is YES! As more votes get counted, the takeaways from the 2018 midterms grow even more exciting. In addition to a historic number of engaged voters and a higher turnout rate than any midterm election of the last 104 years, this election saw a greater margin for Democrats in Congress than the GOP waves of 2010 or 1994 did for the GOP. Even more important than the blue wave in the House is the one that swept across every [...]

How the Blue Wave Helped Rural Illinois

How the Blue Wave Helped Rural Illinois by Jimmy Naville, County Chair, Greene County Democratic Party, @ILDCCA Late Tuesday night on November 4th, 2014, Governor-Elect Bruce Rauner declared victory over Governor Pat Quinn, costing Illinois Democrats the Governorship.  Rural counties creating a map of solid red with only a couple small ponds of blue. In Greene County, voters elected Rauner over Quinn by more than 2 to 1.  Had the Republicans really taken over? Surprisingly, Greene County, such as much of the state, also supported Democratic ballot measures advising legislatures to increase the minimum wage, require health insurance plans with [...]

IDCCA President’s Message – October 2018

IDCCA President’s Message by Doug House, IDCCA President @ILDCCA @RICoDemocrats @Doug_Dem_House Finish Strong! With just a handful of days left before the most important election in a generation, Democrats continue to have an advantage. Is it the “Blue Wave” we’ve all been working toward? In my view, not yet. Let’s be honest, we’ve been here before. And, unfortunately, we’ve been passed by Republicans at the final moments of our campaigns. No doubt, 2018 is different. But we simply cannot afford to let up – we must finish strong. Consider the advantages Illinois Democrats have: Superior Candidates Something happened after our 2014 [...]
