2019-04-12T09:33:07-05:00

Black Women are Leaders in Illinois by Toby Trimmer, Communications Director @ILDCCA  @tobytrimmer Last week, Rich Miller with CapitolFax pointed out one of Illinois’ lesser-recognized data points: the strong role that black women have in our state’s political leadership.  Miller writes, “Black women are truly becoming a significant force in this state… I don’t think too many (if any) other states can say the same thing.” The leadership of black women truly is remarkable. Chicago has now elected a black woman to serve a mayor. The city’s new treasurer, Cook County’s board president, clerk of the circuit court clerk are [...]

Fair Tax Momentum: Democrats tee up Constitutional Amendment

2019-04-11T17:40:42-05:00

Fair Tax Momentum: Democrats tee up Constitutional Amendment by Toby Trimmer, Communications Director @ILDCCA  @tobytrimmer Illinois' unfair tax system has needed reform and modernization for decades. But Springfield lawmakers could never get the ball rolling to give voters the chance to reform the state's constitution, creating a fair tax system to lower or keep income taxes unchanged for 97 percent of Illinoisans. Well, that's changing. This week, Illinois Democrats advanced Senate Joint Resolution Constitutional Amendment 01 that would, if put before the voters and approved, remove Illinois’ flat tax rate where the lowest income earners pay the same percentage as the [...]

She’s sat down in Rock Island County, broke bread in Peoria County and discussed strategy in Christian County. And, she’s [...]

Democrats Building Remarkable Momentum in McLean County

2019-03-11T12:25:06-05:00

Democrats Building Remarkable Momentum in McLean County by Toby Trimmer, Communications Director @ILDCCA  @tobytrimmer @McLeanCoDems Something remarkable is happening in McLean County. Once a seemingly impenetrable GOP stronghold, the McLean County Democratic Party just won't stop rocking their local boats to boost activism and build on the successes of 2018, when a diverse team of three Democrats were elected to the County Board. It’s true, Republicans in McLean County still maintain a 13-7 advantage over their relentless rivals. And, yes, the GOP still runs every countywide office in the east-central Illinois county. But, if the McLean County Democrats’ Roosevelt Dinner [...]

February 2019 – Changes & Transitions

2019-02-07T15:40:36-05:00

In January 2019, a number Illinois Democrats began their service with the Pritzker administration. Others have decided to step aside their Democratic Party duties to make room for new energy. And, sadly, some have passed. IN MEMORIAL: Robert “Bob” Pautler (1933–2019) former Chair, Randolph County Democrats. Bob was a dedicated member of his county Democratic Central Committee and the IDCCA. He was a precinct committeeperson for many years and served as Randolph County Chair for 12 years. Bob was a Navy veteran, a coal miner, a small business owner and a husband, father and grandfather. He will indeed be missed. [...]

How the Blue Wave Helped Rural Illinois

2018-12-11T14:18:12-05:00

How the Blue Wave Helped Rural Illinois by Jimmy Naville, County Chair, Greene County Democratic Party, @ILDCCA Late Tuesday night on November 4th, 2014, Governor-Elect Bruce Rauner declared victory over Governor Pat Quinn, costing Illinois Democrats the Governorship.  Rural counties creating a map of solid red with only a couple small ponds of blue. In Greene County, voters elected Rauner over Quinn by more than 2 to 1.  Had the Republicans really taken over? Surprisingly, Greene County, such as much of the state, also supported Democratic ballot measures advising legislatures to increase the minimum wage, require health insurance plans with [...]
