BOST’S “NOT SO SECRET SANTA” GIFT PUTS EXTRA MONEY IN HIS POCKET
Average 12th CD family will see their taxes go up over time

Springfield, IL – In response to Congressman “Scrooge” Mike Bost’s vote to cut taxes for the wealthiest Americans and stick middle and working-class families a tax increase, President of the Illinois Democratic County Chairs’ Association (IDCCA), Doug House, issued the following statement:

“Mike Bost just voted to give tens of thousands of average Southern Illinois families one of the most heartless Christmas presents– a tax increase. And the wrapped gift under the tree this year at the Bost household? A five times greater deduction on HIS OWN TAXES than the average family in Southern Illinois.

Congressman Bost should be ashamed to stuff the holiday stockings of the wealthiest American elite at the expense of the vast majority of the people he represents. Perhaps he was motivated by the nearly $7000 tax cut he’ll receive under this senseless Republican giveaway to the rich.

No matter how he spins his folksy talk at home, today Mike Bost just chose America’s most elite over average, Southern Illinois families. So, while our taxes go up and our kids are on the hook for trillions in new debt, Mike Bost has given himself a big gift. Scrooge would be proud.”

Reference/ Methodology: The following resources were used to compile the above data:

Mike Bost’s personal income is listed as somewhere between $275,000 and $325,000 a year. This is found by calculating his income on his financial disclosure statement.

The average household income for a family of four in IL-12 is just $48,000 a year.

Using the NYT tax calculator, a family of four making $25,000 to $75,000 per year with two children and taking the standard deductions will see about $1,400 a year extra until their taxes possibly increase over time.

Mike Bost, claiming no children/dependents, filing as married and making $300,000 per year will see nearly $7,000 in savings – or about 5 times that of a normal family in Southern Illinois.
