Doug House: Keep Your Pledge, Governor
Illinois’ House and Senate vote to protect abortion rights, Rauner reverses pledge and vows veto

Springfield, IL – Illinois Democratic County Chairmen’s Association President Doug House released the following statement in response to the Illinois Senate passing HB 40, the bill to protect abortion rights in Illinois:

“I commend both the Illinois Senate and the House for passing HB 40, a bill that ensures women in Illinois continue to have both access and autonomy when it comes to their healthcare and reproductive rights.”

In 2014, then candidate Rauner pledged to support legislation that would protect women in Illinois if Roe v. Wade was repealed.

“Now Governor ‘Let’s Make a Deal’ Rauner has cried foul when he believes others don’t hold up their end of a bargain. Rauner, it’s time to make good on your pledge by signing HB40. It is my hope that he did not lie to the women of Illinois in 2014 when he told them he would support their right to choose.
