What will Rauner do to protect Illinois healthcare?
GOP releases healthcare bill and many questions remain unanswered

Springfield, IL – Doug House, Chairman of the Illinois Democratic County Chairmen’s Association, released the following statement regarding Bruce Rauner’s response to the Republican plan to replace the Affordable Care Act:

For over 8 years and more than 50 votes – we’ve watched Republican’s in Congress and Donald Trump consistently oppose improving our healthcare system, and instead work to dismantle it entirely,” said Doug House. “Yesterday, they released a plan that gives tax breaks to the wealthy, defunds Planned Parenthood, and results in fewer people having healthcare. In our state millions of Illinoisans stand to lose their coverage, and Bruce Rauner will only concede he has concerns about cuts to Medicaid while refusing to discuss any other concerns.”

The Republican’s plan allows states to define essential benefits and change ACA protections such as denying coverage to Americans with pre-existing conditions. We ask Governor Rauner: What will you do to keep premiums, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs low in Illinois? Who will you deny healthcare to when you define essential benefits? And while you continue to neglect your constitutional requirement to present a balanced budget, how will you keep Illinois fiscally sound when Republicans in congress cut Illinois’ Medicaid funding?

There are lots of questions about this Republican plan and what it means for coverage, quality, and cost for the people of Illinois. We call on Governor Rauner and his Republican colleagues in the Illinois Delegation to answer to the people of Illinois.
