IDCCA President’s Message
by Doug House, IDCCA President
@ILDCCA @RICoDemocrats

Are You Ready? Because 2017 is not an “Off Year” and Because 2018 is to Damn Important!

The IDCCA has never been more ready! I recently went through all the stages of dealing with the grief of the General Election Presidential loss as the rest of you did.

But there were two of the stages that I have been hung up on, the first that has given me a great deal of trouble was anger. That is because I cannot stop being angry about what this new President says about our Country.

The second stage that I have had trouble with is acceptance, and that is because, somehow while we were all working together, President Elect Trump still happened on our watch. Sure, Illinois as a state… we did our part this past November.

But there it is… President Elect Trump and Governor Bruce Rauner. So, what do I do? Throw up my hands? Hide my face in sand? Pretend it never happened? None of that is in my DNA, like most of you I am an activist, so I will ACT!

I will organize like I have never done before. I will talk to and register voters as many voters as possible. I will travel our state representing the IDCCA to help with Party Building and recruiting new partners to our fight. I will strategize with the very best to make certain that all we can possibly do as a Party, and as an Organization, will in fact be done!

I need all of you to commit to the same with intensity and with a sense of urgency! I am willing to do this because I am angry and I am unable to accept what has happened. I will work to do my part to change it and to help build our Democratic Party.

You know all the issues and everything that is at stake. For me, I have had an opportunity at a decent middle class living in a beautiful state that I am raising my children in. They deserve that same opportunity that I had and I see it slipping away. I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t do all that I could to stop the carnage that Bruce Rauner is causing to our state and that Donald Trump is causing to our Democracy.

So, I am ready, I am angry, I am not accepting of the status quo and I am going to use both as personal motivation to effectuate change.

I share all of this with you in hopes of preparing you for what it will be like to deal with me for the better part of the next two years. I will be demanding and at times uncompromising because this is a fight that we cannot afford to lose.

I am committing my life to electing a Democrat to the Governor’s Office because we cannot let Illinois fall further behind like Wisconsin did under their Republican Governor Scott Walker.

We are better than that! I cannot do this alone anymore than any other one person can. I need everyone’s help and I will not be afraid to ask for it. I assure you that as your ally in this effort, that if you ask for my help, I will freely give it. It is that important that we win!

So, as we embark on this noble quest to take back our state from the Uncompromising Billionaire Tyrant Bruce Rauner, I ask that you commit yourself to do more. Not for yourself but for Illinois’ future. Commit yourself to do more for your children, for the seniors and for countless others who need your help. Give more of yourself to the IDCCA, more time, more money, more door knocking, and more training. Commit to making this necessary change happen.

Please don’t leave this work to others to do. If we learned nothing from the last election, we have learned that we can never take anything for granted…Never!
