Governor Rauner gives himself a $50 million Christmas gift while Illinois suffers

Springfield, IL – Just days before Christmas Governor Rauner proved it is never too early to get a jump on campaign season. His donation of $50 million dollars to his campaign fund on December 20th goes to show that Governor Rauner cares more about campaigning than governing.

“Governor Rauner showed how much he really cares about Illinois. He continues to hold the state budget hostage and Illinois’ citizens are hurting because of it. Now, to add insult to injury, he donates $50 million to his campaign. How many citizens are hurting this Holiday Season?” said Illinois Democratic County Chairmen’s Association President Doug House.

House said “Every day the citizens of our state are hurting because the Governor refuses to do his job. The North Side Housing and Supportive Services shelter in Chicago is set to close within days. Instead of working with the Legislature to negotiate a compromise to help social services, he reloads his campaign war chest.”

Governor Rauner’s Christmas gift to himself signals that he has no plans to work to better Illinois. He has proven that he is willing to run our state further into the ground and then blame others for it. He doesn’t care how many people get hurt, so long as he doesn’t get blamed.

Keeping with the spirit of the Holiday Season, Governor Rauner should stop campaigning and start governing. Maybe then he will mean it when he says he cares about the citizens of Illinois.
