Illinois Democratic County Chairmen Endorse Safe Roads Amendment

Springfield, IL – Last week, the Executive Board of the Illinois Democratic County Chairmen’s Association voted unanimously to endorse the Safe Roads Amendment that will appear on the November General Election ballot. The Safe Roads Amendment is the proposed Illinois Constitutional Amendment that prohibits the General Assembly from diverting transportation revenue for non-transportation purposes.

IDCCA President Doug House said “Illinois’ infrastructure is at a critical point right now. For years our roads and bridges have been neglected. It’s time for our state to make our infrastructure a priority. The Safe Roads Amendment will ensure that the families of Illinois will have safe roads and bridges to drive on for years to come.”

The Safe Roads Amendment received overwhelming bipartisan support during the past legislative session. The Safe Roads Amendment passed the Illinois House of Representatives with 98 votes and passed the Illinois Senate with 55 votes. Having received well above the 3/5 votes required, the Safe Roads Amendment will be presented to the Illinois voters.

House said “I encourage all Democrats in Illinois to openly support the Safe Roads Amendment. This is good public policy that will improve our crumbling infrastructure. The IDCCA is proud to actively support this measure.”
