Springfield, IL – Fresh off of the March Democratic Primary where Illinois Democrats soundly pushed back against Governor Rauner, over 200 supporters, elected officials and County Democratic Party Chairmen gathered at the Hubbard Inn in Chicago for the first ever Illinois Democratic County Chairmen’s Association Chicago Reception.

The reception, hosted by Speaker Michael Madigan, Senate President John Cullerton and U.S. Senator Durbin, highlighted the resolve of all Democrats statewide to fight back against Governor Rauner.

IDCCA President Doug House said “This Governor has united the Democratic Party against him and were going to take the fight to him. We have a lot of work to do before November and we are getting ready.

We are standing strong with the support of the top Democratic leadership in the state – Speaker Madigan, Senate President Cullerton and U.S. Senator Durbin.  We are also partnering with Organized Labor including the Illinois AFL – CIO President Carrigan.”

The Chicago reception, held on March 21st, can be used as a barometer of the new wave of political engagement for Democrats.

Many of the members of the Host Committee were in attendance and spoke to the fired up crowd about the need for a strong IDCCA. Speakers were: IDCCA President Doug House, Democratic Party Chairman and Speaker of the House, Mike Madigan, Senate President John Cullerton, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth – candidate for U.S. Senate, City Clerk Susanna Mendoza – candidate for Illinois Comptroller, Secretary of State Jesse White and former Governor Pat Quinn.

“For years our organization has been known for the Chairmen’s Breakfast on the morning of Democrat Day at the State Fair. That changes now!

Our organization will be organized, trained and vocal in our opposition to Governor Rauner.” said President House.

The IDCCA will use the funds raised last night by investing in grassroots activities, including the support of individual County Party activities to recruit and train Precinct Committeemen. The IDCCA also plans to hire staff that will have a laser focus on taking the fight to Governor Rauner.

President House said “It’s a new day for the IDCCA. We are ready to work with our partners statewide to get Democrats elected. We have a 102 county strategy where we will fight for the working men and women of Illinois.”
